What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students who demonstrate talent and have advanced learning needs in any of the four domains: creative, intellectual, physical and social-emotional.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies that enrich and extend
- tailored support during lessons that challenge and motivate
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.

- Safe learning environments encourage confidence, risk-taking and perseverance.
- Teachers provide differentiated tasks that adjust pace, complexity and higher-order thinking.
- Formative assessments are completed to provide baseline data so teachers can monitor growth and adapt learning.
- Students can access advanced learning pathways, including accelerated content.
- Students are explicitly taught critical thinking and problem-solving strategies.
- Teachers promote choice, authenticity, and critical and creative thinking in the tasks they design.
- Opportunities to participate in academic competitions, including ICAS.
- Creative arts groups include drama, visual arts and writing groups - participating in showcases and competitions.
- Athletes, both individuals and teams, represent our school across a wide variety of sports at zone, regional, state and national levels.
- Whole school student leadership opportunities include Student Representative Council and Student Wellbeing Awareness Team.
- Structured wellbeing programs, including Wellbeing Week, provide student leadership opportunities and social-emotional development for every student.
- The Representative School Sport Pathway and CHSSA events enable our students to trial and compete in sports at regional, state and national levels, fostering discipline, commitment and collaboration.
- The Schools Spectacular is an iconic performing arts event and our student involvement celebrates their talents, diversity and creativity alongside students from across NSW public schools.
- Our STEM Enrichment Partnerships with universities deepens our students’ intellectual curiosity while developing innovation and collaboration.
