Dear Parent,
I trust you and your family and friends are keeping in this dangerous fire season. I know that most of our families are not currently directly affected, but we do live in a very bushy area and we will all need to be vigilant of the next few weeks and months.
We were all very distressed to learn of the 198 people in Springwood and Winmalee who lost their homes completely and another 100 people whose homes were damaged. Of course, added to this are those who lost their homes further afield in Mt Victoria and elsewhere in the state. Some of you may remember Mr David May, past Deputy Principal of Windsor High School, whose home at Winmalee was destroyed in the recent fire.
Windsor High School staff and SRC want to contribute to the fundraising for the fire victims and have organised for a BBQ here at lunchtime on Friday 25 October, with all profits going to the SRC of Winmalee High School to use to support the students who have been affected by the fire.
Many of our teachers live in villages along Bell's Line of Road and in the villages along the Great Western Highway and are currently at home preparing or have evacuated. Hence, we do have a few more casual teachers at school than is usual but all classes have been taken care and all students are well-supervised.
If you wish to donate to the fire victims, please contact the Salvation Army, who pass all funds raised to the fire victims.
