Support

The Support Unit at Windsor High School was opened in 2001, it is a purpose built facility with three classrooms each with their own adjoining computer rooms and storage rooms. The unit also has a gymnasium, cooking facilities, self- contained outdoor play area, laundry and toilets equipped with showers that cater for students with disabilities.

Classes are restricted to a maximum size of seven students, each with a full time teacher and School Learning Support Officer. There are 5 classes in the support unit that are Multicategorical classes. These classes cater for students in a Year 7-12 range with autism and/or an intellectual delay,  moderate to severe intellectual delays as well as physical disabilities.

Each class has Individual Education Plans, specifically tailored to meet the varying needs of each student. All classes are co-educational and follow varying programs including transition to post-school options.  Support students access life skills curriculums and integrated into mainstream curriculums. They are involved in community access programs as well as work experience programs. Students also have access to mainstream facilities and according to their Individual Educational Plan, can access mainstream classes as well as participate in school events including excursions, sports carnivals etc. Parents and care givers are an integral part of their child's education, communication is ensured through our daily communications diary and reappraisal reviews and individual education meetings which are completed on a regular basis.
